What back-to-school tutoring actually costs — and why $25/session changes the math.

If you've looked into private tutoring before, you already know the sticker shock. Independent tutors in most US cities charge between $60 and $100 per hour for one-on-one sessions. Tutoring centers like Kumon or Sylvan add enrollment fees on top of monthly costs. And school-based options, when available at all, are usually group sessions with limited flexibility.

Camp Homework was built with a different math. By offering a structured 4-week program — same tutor, clear plan, defined outcome — we can deliver 1-on-1 tutoring at $25 per session. That's not a stripped-down version of tutoring. It's the same personalized, 1-on-1 instruction with a skills assessment, custom plan, weekly parent updates, and a results guarantee that other programs either don't offer or charge extra for.

The question parents ask most often is: "Is it worth it?" The better question is what it costs to do nothing. A child who starts September already behind doesn't just struggle in September — they fall further behind every month that gap goes unaddressed. One focused summer program can change the entire trajectory of a school year.

Skills Assessment

Session one identifies your child's exact gaps — so every session after is targeted, not generic. Included in every plan.

Every session is private. Your child's tutor is focused 100% on them — not a group, not a self-paced app, not a worksheet packet.

📋
Custom Session Plan

A 4-week plan built around your child's specific gaps and grade level. Not a standard curriculum — a plan for this child.

📝
Practice Materials

Between-session worksheets and reading passages matched to what was just covered. About 15 minutes per day — no extra cost.

📊
Weekly Parent Updates

Written updates after every week — what was covered, what improved, what's still being worked on. You're never in the dark.

Both Guarantees

Tutor rematch guarantee (first 2 sessions) and Preparedness Promise (2 free sessions if you're not satisfied). Both included.

What $200 actually buys your child

Parents sometimes ask whether a summer tutoring program is really worth the investment. Here's an honest breakdown of what that $200 actually changes.

📈
A different kind of September

A child who starts school with gaps closed and confidence rebuilt doesn't just have a better first week — they have a better first semester. Teachers notice. Grades reflect it. The compounding effect of starting ready instead of starting behind is significant and measurable.

🧠
Fewer hours of homework stress

Parents of struggling students often spend hours every week at the kitchen table trying to help with homework — often without success, and often with real stress on both sides. Closing the foundational gap means homework becomes manageable instead of a nightly battle. That's worth something too.

💰
Far cheaper than the alternative

A child who falls significantly behind often needs intervention that extends for months or years — and the cost of year-round tutoring at $60–$100 per session adds up fast. Four targeted weeks in summer at $25/session is a fraction of what families spend trying to catch up after the fact.

😌
A child who believes they can do it

The confidence shift is the thing parents talk about most. When a child who said "I'm bad at math" or "I hate reading" finishes the program and starts sessions voluntarily — that's not just academic progress. That's a change in how they see themselves as a learner, and it carries forward far beyond September.

🎯
You know exactly what you're getting

Unlike an open-ended tutoring arrangement where you're never quite sure what's happening or whether it's helping, Camp Homework has a defined structure, weekly updates, and a clear endpoint. You know what you paid, what your child worked on, and what changed. No ambiguity.

🛡️
Guaranteed or your money's worth

The Preparedness Promise means the risk is ours, not yours. If your child attends all sessions, does the practice work, and you still don't feel more prepared — we add 2 free sessions. No tutor, center, or app offers a guarantee like that. It's there because we believe in the program.

🛡️
The Preparedness Promise

We're so confident in the program that we back it with a straightforward guarantee. If your child attends all their sessions and completes the between-session practice work — and by the end of the program you still don't feel more prepared for the school year ahead — we add 2 extra sessions at no cost.

No argument. No form to fill out. No fine print designed to disqualify you. Just 2 more sessions, scheduled and delivered.

  • Applies to both the Essential and Full Reset plans
  • Requires attendance at all scheduled sessions
  • Requires completion of between-session practice materials
  • Two additional sessions delivered at no extra cost
  • No time limit to invoke — just let us know before the school year begins
  • Separate from the tutor rematch guarantee (which covers the first 2 sessions)

If you already have a tutor your child loves, stick with them. If you want a year-round center with daily drop-in hours, Kumon may be a better fit. Camp Homework is specifically designed for the back-to-school window — focused, affordable, guaranteed, and built around your child's individual gaps.

"We've really enjoyed the program and working with everyone. Seems like she's enjoying it too — which is the most important part for us."
— Amy A., parent of a 5th grader

$25/session isn't a discount. It's a different model.

We're not cutting corners to offer a lower price. We built a program structure that makes high-quality 1-on-1 tutoring accessible — and then we backed it with guarantees most tutoring options don't offer at any price.

  • No enrollment fees — the price you see is the price you pay. No registration, no materials fee, no assessment charge.
  • No upsells mid-program — we don't recommend additional sessions or packages once you're enrolled. The plan is the plan.
  • Installment option at no extra cost — split into 2 payments with zero interest or fees. No financing required.
  • Guaranteed outcomes — the Preparedness Promise means the risk is ours. No other tutoring option at this price offers a results guarantee.
  • Tutor rematch at no cost — if the first tutor isn't the right fit, we rematch and add a free replacement session. No penalty, no restarting from scratch.

Everything parents ask about cost and payment

Why is Camp Homework so much cheaper than other tutoring?
We built a structured program model rather than an open-ended tutoring arrangement. Because the program has a defined structure — 4 weeks, clear plan, specific outcomes — we can deliver 1-on-1 instruction more efficiently than an independent tutor billing hourly. We're also not a brick-and-mortar center with overhead costs. That savings goes directly into making the program more accessible, not into our margins.
Are there any hidden fees or add-ons?
None. The price you see is the price you pay. There's no enrollment fee, no assessment fee, no materials fee, and no charge for the practice worksheets sent between sessions. If you use the installment option, there's no interest or processing fee on that either. The only time you'd ever pay more is if you chose to add sessions after the program — which we'd discuss with you before anything is charged.
How does the installment plan work?
Both plans can be split into 2 payments. For the Essential plan ($200 total), the payments are $110 at booking and $110 at the start of week 2. For the Full Reset ($300 total), the payments are $160 at booking and $160 at the start of week 2. There's no interest, no credit check, and no fee for splitting payments. It's just a way to make the program easier to manage.
Which plan should I choose — Essential or Full Reset?
If your child has a clear primary struggle in one subject — "they're behind in math" or "reading is the main issue" — the Essential plan is usually the right starting point. If they're behind in two subjects and you want to address both before September, the Full Reset makes sense. At $100 more, it adds 4 sessions and a second subject — still $25/session. We'll help you decide on the free call based on what your child actually needs.
What's the Preparedness Promise and how do I use it?
If your child attends all their sessions and completes the between-session practice work, and by the end of the program you don't feel more prepared for the school year ahead — just let us know. We'll schedule 2 additional sessions at no cost. No form, no argument, no hoops. The one condition is that both sides held up their end — sessions attended and practice completed. If that happened and you're still not satisfied, we make it right.
Can I add more sessions after the 4-week program?
Yes, though we'd discuss whether it makes sense given your child's progress and timeline. If school starts soon and the program covered the priority gaps, additional sessions may not be necessary. If there's still time before September and meaningful gaps remain, we can discuss extending — at the same per-session rate, with the same tutor. We'll never push additional sessions if they're not needed.
What if my child misses a session?
Life happens — we get it. If your child needs to miss a session, reach out to your coordinator as early as possible and we'll reschedule within the same week when possible, or make up the session in week 4 if needed. We want all 8 or 12 sessions to happen because that's what delivers the full program — and it's what qualifies for the Preparedness Promise. Missed sessions that aren't made up may affect guarantee eligibility, so we always work to reschedule rather than skip.
Is tutoring tax deductible?
In some cases, tutoring expenses may qualify for education tax credits or deductions — but this depends on your specific situation, your state, and how your child's tutoring is categorized. We're not tax advisors and can't give you a definitive answer on this. We do provide receipts and documentation of services that you can share with your accountant or tax preparer. We'd recommend asking your tax professional whether your situation qualifies.
Do you offer sibling discounts or group rates?
We don't offer group sessions — every child works 1-on-1 with their own tutor, and that's not something we'd change as it's core to the program. If you have more than one child who needs tutoring, each would enroll in their own plan. That said, if you're enrolling multiple children at the same time, reach out on the free call and we'll see what we can do — we don't have a formal sibling discount but we try to work with families when we can.
How do I get started?
Book a free call using the button on this page. The call takes about 15–20 minutes — you'll tell us about your child and we'll figure out the right plan together. No payment is required until after the call, and there's no pressure to enroll on the spot. Most families have their first session scheduled within 3–5 days of the call. Summer spots fill quickly, so the sooner you reach out, the more scheduling flexibility you'll have.
